Description
Bernard Garbutt Original Sketchbook (Walt Disney, c. 1930-40s). This lot displays the remarkable artistic skills of the renowned Disney animator and teacher Bernard Garbutt (1900 - 1975) with a splendid sketchbook featuring over 150 pages of sketches, studio gags, human and animal anatomy studies, and much more. Besides his Disney career, involved in productions like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Bambi, Gabrutt's remarkable skills as a draftsman had him illustrating children's books and teaching at the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute in the '50s and '60s. Marc Davis kept a great number of Gerbutt's sketches and drawings, a sign of his admiration for the artist. This 10.25" x 12" screw-bound sketchbook has the drawing done in graphite, ink, and colored pencils on 12-filed animation paper, featuring a wide variety of subjects, particularly displaying his proficiency in rendering animals, a capability that had him teaching animal drawing at Disney. Eight of the pages come detached. The cover and back cover shows some handling wear and minor foxing. The pages show light age-related toning with minor handling and edge wear.
