Beach Picnic Donald Duck Courvoisier Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1939).
Donald and Pluto's swimming trip to the beach is interrupted by a swarm of hungry ants in the 1939 Walt Disney short, Beach Picnic. From this Clyde Geronimi-directed short subject film we have a fantastic Courvoisier cel setup featuring Donald Duck. The cel is hand-inked, trimmed, affixed to another cel and placed on a hand-painted Courvoisier background along with a water effects cel. Donald is an impressive 4" tall, clad in his swim suit and straw hat. The piece is in a 15.25" x 14.5" frame with an opening of 9.25" x 8". Frame sold as-is. In 1938, an art dealer named Guthrie Courvoisier was looking for something fresh and obtainable he could represent in his San Francisco Art Gallery. Guthrie turned to Walt Disney. He envisioned selling animation art to collectors and museums worldwide. Today Courvoisier animation art is considered the crown jewel of any compelling collection. This is a terrific piece of animation art from the Walt Disney Studios and the Courvoisier Galleries. Superficial, age-related cel warping. Good condition.
