Autograph Hound Group of 4 Donald Duck Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1939). "You leave him alone! He's Donald Duck!" And with those words, spoken by Shirley Temple, the hound becomes the hounded... Donald has been pestering an entire backlot's worth of Hollywood stars all day long - but when the studio is alerted to the fact that THE Donald Duck is visiting the lot, "Tinseltown's finest" mob him in a mad dash for his autograph. He has thus far been successful in eluding the studio security guard. Stars with whom Donald directly interacts include Greta Garbo, Mickey Rooney, Sonja Henie, Henry Armetta, and the Ritz Brothers. Many others make cameos in the finale. This Technicolor short was released on September 1, 1939, and was directed by Jack King. Legendary animators Ward Kimball and Shamus Culhane both worked on the film as well. Fun fact: this was the first film in which Donald's trademark sailor's cap was colored blue, instead of white - though in posters for the film, the old coloring is used. These drawings are taken from the pivotal moment in the film, when the security guard has finally caught up with Donald... After grabbing him by the scruff and pulling him through the porthole of a battleship set piece, he shouts gleefully, "NOW, I got ya!" The sequence can be seen at the 5:37 point in the short. The drawings are rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. The drawing of Donald is an ideal pose of the iconic character, being close up, with a surprised expression - it tells a story, even when seen out of context. The drawings of Donald and the guard are large full-body images of both characters, with vibrant colored shading to provide guidance for the Ink & Paint Department when denoting shadow, shading, and "motion-blur." Minor handling and toning of paper. In Very Good condition.
