Alpine Climbers Donald Duck Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1936). "Hold on, Mickey! I'll save ya!" Donald rushes to help Mickey avoid being carried away by an (understandably) angry mother eagle. Mickey, Goofy, and Donald have been trying to steal her eggs! This Technicolor short was released to theaters on July 25, 1936. It was directed by Dave Hand, and featured animation by Dick Huemer, Grim Natwick, and Norm Ferguson. Starring Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto, three greats provided the voices: Disney himself, Clarence Nash, and Pinto Colvig. Per Disney's agreement with Good Housekeeping magazine, the short received a full-page illustration in the April issue, though in print, it was titled "Alpine Mickey" and, though the setting and characters were the same, the print adaptation did not follow the film's plot closely. These hilarious drawings can be seen at the 8:05 point in the film. Mickey has lassoed the mother eagle and hangs on for dear life, as she is about to carry him off the edge of a cliff. Donald runs up the lasso like a tightrope and lays into the eagle through a series of punches and kicks - before getting soundly thrashed himself by her superior fighting skills. Wonderful full body depictions of both characters, in vibrant "action poses", as they proceed to wallop one another. A satisfying progression from start to finish, a mini-vignette is portrayed through these four drawings. They have been completed on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. The characters of Donald and the mother eagle are largely rendered in graphite, with effects animation (shock, smears, motion-blur) all drawn in colored pencil. Some minor toning and creasing throughout the four drawings. All are in Very Good condition.
