Alice in Wonderland Storybook Illustration by Mel Crawford (Walt Disney, 1951). Alice in Wonderland first began as a Disney animated film project in the late 1930s. It was eventually pushed back to a 1951 release with Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Ham Luske directing. Here is a pair of Mel Crawford original paintings on illustration board of Alice meeting the Cheshire Cat for the first time. These were done for the RCA Victor "Little Golden Book Storybook Record Album" of Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland. The book included two 78 rpm records with a 22-page illustrated story. All images in this book were done by legendary children's book artist, Mr. Mel Crawford (1925-2015). These are the original Mel Crawford gouache paintings for pages 16 and 17. Boards measure 10.5" x 13.5" each. Both boards make up a two-page spread. Alice is seen with the Cheshire Cat on page 16, while page 17 is a stunning far-away look at the Queen of Hearts' Castle. Photocopies of these pages with text is included in the lot. Great colors and nice large images of 5" and 6". It is interesting to note, Alice has red and white striped stockings. This may have been due to a change made after this book was completed, as she wore sheer white in the film. Both boards are in a common Plexiglas-front frame measuring 31.5" x 24" with a mat opening of 22" x 14". Frame is sold as-is, artwork has minor handling wear. Very Good condition.
