Description
A Sheep in the Deep Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf Character Design Layout Drawing by Chuck Jones with Print Group of 2 (Warner Brothers, 1962). Ralph and Sam are clocked in and back on the job, in this original 12 field 3-peghole animation layout drawing from Animation Legend Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002), who wrote and directed this as his sixth and final Ralph and Sam short (the very last Ralph and Sam cartoon, Woolen Under Where from 1963, was directed by Phil Monroe and Richard Thompson). A Sheep in the Deep was first shown in theaters on 2/10/1962. In the scene, Ralph tries floating over Sam toward the sheep by holding three helium balloons, but Sam brings him down with a peashooter, leaving one quickly deflating balloon hanging at Ralph's neck; note the lightly penciled outline of the cliff where Sam keeps watch. You can find a similar image to this drawing in online viewings at the 3:35 timestamp. The art is in graphite with neat orange and green pencil highlights. The combined image area measures approximately 4.75" x 5", with the number 1 noted in the lower right corner, while 49 is written in the upper right. A 13" x 11" color print of the scene from the cartoon is included for comparison. Art condition is Good to Very Good with some handling, slight smudging, and edge wear.Auction Info
