653 Bombardment Squadron Insignia Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). The Walt Disney Studio provided the World War II insignias for this group. The Squadron was based out of Kilmer, New Jersey and active in 1944 and '45. Their role in World War II was for weather reconnaissance missions in England and throughout Europe. They had photographic supplies on board their flights to map out all of Europe during the war effort. Hank Porter's studio group used bees, hornets, wasps, mosquitos, and other bugs for many insignias. This is an original gouache on board painting for this group's insignia. It should be noted that it was on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum exhibit in 2004-5 as well as the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Exhibit in 2006-7. Stunning image, with a size of 7" x 5"; it can be seen in the book Characters of Military on page 224. Artwork is in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 16" x 16" with a mat opening of 7.5 x 7.5". Frame is sold as-is. Condition of artwork is Very Good.
