101 Dalmatians Cruella De Vil Published Original Gouache Painting for Ceramic Plate by Julie Bell (Walt Disney, 1961/2006). "To see her is to take a sudden chill- Cruella, Cruella De Ville." Wearing a sneer that will make you shiver, presented here is an absolutely wicked published original gouache painting of the fan-favorite Disney Villain created by award-winning fantasy artist Julie Bell for a 2006 limited edition ceramic plate. A nationally recognized bodybuilder in her youth which later influenced her portrayal of women, Bell has painted cover illustrations for more than 100 fantasy and science fiction publications since 1990 as well as video game, trading card, and album cover works. Bell also created a series three iconic Disney Villain portraits including Snow White's Evil Queen, Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent, and the stunning Cruella presented in this lot. The series was initially released in the 2006 oval shape with a gold-plated Magic Mirror frame sculpted directly into to plate in an edition sizes of only 500 through Disney Shopping and the Disney Catalogue (print of Cruella's plate included for reference); a later, possibly international, round version was also released in an edition sizes of 5000. Rendered in varnished gouache, Cruella has an image area of approximately 4.25" x 5.25" hand-painted on a sheet of board trimmed to 8" x 10" and tape-mounted to a similar sized piece of foamcore; Bell's signature is found at the lower edge of the image area. With typical handling and edge wear including faint smudging in the margins and minor wear to the mounting tape, overall this incredible one-of-a-kind published original is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
