"The Art of T. Hee" Hollywood Film Stars Caricatures (Disney/Warner Brothers, c. 1930s). T. (Thornton) Hee (1911 - 1988) was an animator, director, character designer and teacher. He worked for Leon Schlesinger from 1935 - 1936 and created the celebrity caricatures for The Coo Coo Nut Grove (1936) and The Woods Are Full of Coocoos (1937). Shortly after, he moved to Disney where he designed the caricatures for Mother Goose Goes Hollywood. He was also co-founder of the Character Animation Program at Cal Arts with Jack Hannah. This is a rare look at his beloved Golden Age of Hollywood caricatures which include Gracie Allen, George Burns, Marion Davies, Kay Frances, Joan Blondell, Bette Davis, and Dick Powell, all drawn in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. Additional names of Hugh Herbert, Ed. G. Robinson, and Leslie Howard are written on the border. Handling wear and light toning. In Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
