"The Art of Art Riley" Winter Scene Painting (Walt Disney, c. 1940s/50s). Arthur "Art" Riley (1911 - 1998) began in the background department at Disney in 1938 and worked there for over 30 years. He worked on every single major animated feature film and many shorts during that time. He also worked on the "Once Upon a Wintertime" section of Melody Time (1948). This Art Riley original winter scene painting looks like it jumped right off the film. The pink sky, the trees, and the skaters all look very similar to this exact scene that we see around the :51 second mark, when Joe and Jenny pass the skaters by the barn as they glide past them. This outstanding Art Riley original is painted in gouache on lightweight board measuring 18" x 14". It is has been signed by Art Riley on bottom left corner. Back of painting is stamped "Estate of Art Riley." One wonders if this was a study for the film, or if this painting was simply inspired by the sequence. Either way, this is a beautiful piece of artwork from a very important artist. Minor handling and edge wear. Overall condition is Very Good.
