"Pirates of the Caribbean" Illustration Original Art by Marc Davis and Related Items Group (Walt Disney, 1967). Walt Disney once said of Marc Davis, "Marc can do story, he can do character, he can design shows for me. All I have to do is tell him what I want and it's there. He is my renaissance man." Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1989; a Winsor McCay Award recipient in 1982; and was one of "Walt's Nine Old Men." His work on the Disneyland Park attraction "Pirates of the Caribbean" is legendary. Throughout the Pirates of the Caribbean 50-page souvenir magazine sold at the Park, you can see Marc's original artwork used to create this attraction. Marc's original Pirates paintings done while this attraction was in development are considered extremely rare. This attraction opened on 3/18/67, and was the last Disneyland attraction to have Walt Disney's involvement. Walt Disney is seen looking over Marc's artwork in the Souvenir Magazine. This is a rare pen and ink/watercolor painting of one of Marc Davis's original Pirates of the Caribbean concept art. It depicts pirates about to bury treasure next to a locked chest and what looks to be a dead pirate. Great images in classic Davis style, with sizes of 7" and 10". The great Pirate's Treasure Chest is 4". The painting is on paper measuring 17" x 14", mounted to a backing board of 20" x 16". The piece comes directly from the Marc Davis Personal Collection and has a Letter of Authenticity from his wife, Alice Davis. Also included is a rare WED poster for a speech given by Marc Davis at the Disney studios on March 16, 1992. Poster measures 11" x 17" and features Marc's Pirates of Caribbean artwork on the print. Small tear in top border and some staining on poster. Artwork has minor handling but is Very Good. The artwork is also hand-signed by Marc Davis on bottom right by the Treasure Chest. This is a very important work of Disney-related original art!
