Disney artist and Imagineer Herb Ryman (1910 - 1989) has a storied past in the world of animation, theme parks and the circus. His work at Disney Studios involved art direction and layout design on feature films throughout the '40s, but he is perhaps best known as the man who drew the original designs of Disneyland used by Roy Disney to pitch Walt's dream to investors. He later went on to become an Imagineer, designing many of the park attractions. This is a portrait of Felix Adler (1895 - 1960) the legendary "King of Clowns" who performed for Ringling Brothers Circus for 20 years. Titled "Felix the King" the portrait is painted in oil on stretched canvas. It is signed by the artist and dated 1950 in the lower right. The back of the canvas bears the artist's handwritten name, the panting's title and Mr. Ryman's address. Included with the painting is an original art exhibition tag from the National Academy of Design for its 127th Annual Exhibition in 1952 in which this painting was on display. The art measures approximately 30" x 27" and is in a frame of 39" x 34.5". Condition is Very Good and frame is sold as-is.
