"Bambi Meets his Forest Friends" Painted Illustration (Walt Disney/New York Graphics Society, 1947). The New York Graphics Society opened in 1804 and has the distinction of being the first Museum in New York City. They did a license with the Walt Disney Company in 1946 to produce and sell a series of four lithograph prints for fundraising efforts. They produced two Snow White pieces and two Bambi pieces, sold in portfolios of four and also as individual prints in three sizes. Each litho sold had a bottom border notice that read "Copyright New York Graphics Society, Fine Art Publishers. Published with the cooperation of Walt Disney Productions, Calf." The artwork was produced and painted by the Disney Studios. The artist of these paintings is unknown, but have been Hank Porter, Samuel Armstrong, Tyrus Wong, or even Campbell Grant. This is the original Disney Studio painting for the piece entitled "Bambi Meets his Forest Friends" print, featuring Bambi, his mother, and forest friends including Thumper and Flower. This wonderful gouache painting is framed with Plexiglas and matted with an opening size of 23" x 19", in an overall frame size of 32" x 28". It is important to note this is the published original painting of the New York Graphic Society lithograph sold in 1947, and not a reproduction or later recreation. This was one of the first major Fine Art license deals ever done at the Walt Disney Studio, and this is a very important piece. A vintage 13.5" x 11.5" New York Graphics Society litho print is included in the lot. Very Good condition.
