Description

X-Men "Graduation Day" Cyclops Production Cel Key Master Setup (Marvel Studios, 1997). "Who's there?!" Cyclops has accidently alerted Genosha's mutant guards in this original Key Master Setup from the final episode of the beloved 1990s Marvel animated series X-Men, "Graduation Day". This second attempt at an animated X-Men series was met with great success, premiering in late 1992 and running for five seasons with 76 action-packed episodes. Sometime after Disney's 2009 acquisition of Marvel talks began to revive the series, and X-Men '97 debuted on Disney+ in late March of 2024 set approximately one year after the events of this very episode. "Graduation Day" served as the finale to the series with strong emphasis on the civil rights themes prevalent throughout the franchise. It saw Professor X mortally wounded by a political rival which in turn gave Magneto the unrest he needed for a mutant call to war. Cyclops can be spotted, stopped in his tracks near the 11:50 mark of the episode as the X-Men infiltrate the mutant country of Genosha in search of Magento. His three-quarters figure has been hand-painted to a character size of 6" x 6.5", pleasingly centered on the 12 field cel which bears production codes along the lower edge. The Key Master background has been hand-painted in gouache on board trimmed to 12.75" x 10.5", also bearing production codes along the lower edge. With typical studio handling and wear including the noted trimming, minor edge/corner creasing to the background, and cel adhesion to the background, overall this startling Key Master setup from X-Men's final episode is in Very Good condition.
