Description
Whoa Be-Gone Wile E. Coyote Production Cel with Color Key/Concept painting by Maurice Noble (Warner Brothers, 1958). Wile E. Coyote is in hot pursuit of the Road Runner in the opening seconds of Whoa Be-Gone. The film opens with him astride a rocket with knife and fork in hand on the heals of his usual prey. Offered here is an original hand-inked hand-painted production cel from the 0:40 mark in this scene just before calamity strikes. The 3" x 1.5" image is on a 12 field 3 peghole cel. While it's a nicely detailed image, the real star of this lot is the original color key/concept painting of a desert background by legendary Warner Brothers layout artist, Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001). It is beautifully detailed in gouache with colored pencil and measures 12" x 8.5" on 14 field 3-peghole animation paper. The lower right corner bears the artist's signature in graphite. This piece appears on page 137 of Tod Polson's book The Noble Approach and a color copy of that page is included with the lot. It's a magnificent composition from the heyday of Warner animation. Minor handling and Condition overall is Very Good.Auction Info
