Description

What's Opera, Doc? Bugs Bunny Production Cel and Master Production Background (Warner Brothers, 1957). "Dat was da wabbit!" realizes Elmer Fudd as Siegfried when Bugs Bunny runs away, in this original multi-level cel scene with Master painted production background. What's Opera, Doc? was originally released on 7/6/1957; it is considered by many fans and animation scholars as the finest cartoon ever made, and is listed as such in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. In this great setup, Bugs is high-tailing it outta there, his gloved fingers stretching out as if trying to grab air. You can see Bugs in this pose at the 2:53 mark. The other elements in the setup are from different parts of the short; the rock ledge can be seen as Elmer flexes his "Magic Helmet" powers at the 2:34 mark (that's Sigfried's spear by Bugs). The smoke trail effects cel and sunlight-streaming background are from other sections, but it all seems to work here. Wow! Bugs Bunny's image is quite large, with an approximate size of 7.5" x 5.5". The setup is matted with an opening of 11" x 9"; overall mat size is 19.5" x 17.5", ready to hang and admire. Any production art from this Chuck Jones-directed classic cartoon is highly desirable, but finding a cel of Bugs Bunny from it is nearly impossible! Condition is Very Good with minor handling. "Kill the rabbit?!"
