Description

TRON "Master Control Program Pursuit Force" Ektachrome Continuous-Tone Transparency (Walt Disney, 1982). "I should never have written all those Tank Programs." This original Ektachrome continuous-tone transparency captures a tense TRON moment as Sark's MCP Pursuit Force tank programs bear down on the last conscript, Tron. Prepared as a black-and-white Kodalith (a.k.a. Ektachrome) from stage photography by DP Bruce Logan, the image was enlarged from original 65mm B&W fine-grain elements, then used on the animation stand where framed positives were backlit and re-photographed through colored camera filters to create the film's glow. In 1982, full-frame computer animation wasn't practical, so shots like this were built one by one; the most complex frames could take up to six hours to produce. As associate producer and VFX supervisor Harrison Ellenshaw recalled, "we didn't use the term CGI until right after TRON." The wide composition underscores the story's humanity inside a calculated mainframe world, pairing two figures against the mechanized menace of the Grid. Measuring 20" x 12" with a 19" x 8.5" image area, this panoramic transparency is in Fine condition and will display beautifully on a lightbox-an evocative artifact from Disney's cult-classic sci-fi milestone, and a piece for serious collectors.
