Description

TRON Group of 3 RARE Ektachrome Continuous-Tone TEST Transparencies (Walt Disney, 1982). This trio of Ektachrome continuous-tone test transparencies from TRON showcases Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) and Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) at the birth of the film's signature look. The set includes two Tron pieces measuring 6.5" x 11" and 11" x 14", plus one Flynn image at 7" x 11". Created as pre-production tests-also called "Kodaliths"-these were enlarged from 65mm B&W fine-grain stage photography by DP Bruce Logan. On the animation stand, framed enlargements were backlit and re-photographed through colored camera filters, a frame-by-frame process used because computers couldn't render full animated frames-an approach later honored with an Academy Award® for Technical Achievement. Storywise, Flynn is the ENCOM programmer turned arcade owner seeking proof of Dillinger's theft, while Tron (code "JA-307020") is Alan Bradley's security program charged with safeguarding communications; captured by the MCP, he's freed by Flynn to finish the job. Production-used artifacts from TRON are scarce; as early test pieces, these examples vividly trace the movie's photochemical roots and the evolution of its neon-noir palette from live-action performance to the glowing Grid. A VFX-collector highlight! Condition Very Good.
