Description

Trigun Opening Title Sequence Vash the Stampede Production Cel with Key Master Background (Madhouse, 1998). For 26 episodes, fans marveled at the high-octane opening title sequence of the cult-classic anime series Trigun. Building up to the beginning of each episode, the intro had some scenes from episodes, and some sequences were created exclusively for the opening. In this lot, we have one of those images. Right at the 0:40 mark of the opening sequence, we have this magnificent pan of Vash the Stampede, aiming his weapon as the sand passes by and the wind waves his red coat. You can probably hear the powerful riff from the music theme just by staring at this sensational hand-painted pan cel. The piece is presented on an astonishing Key Master background rendered in gouache on background board and measuring 15" x 9.75". The two-cel setup showcases Vash aiming his .45 Long Colt in an image measuring 9.25" x 5.75 on the pan-sized production cels. Also presented in this setup is the amazing sand effect that adds to the remarkable atmosphere of the piece. Included with the lot are also three animation drawings, numbered A1, C1, and D1. Drawing C1 has Vash's hair and coat, rendered in graphite with blue, green, pink, red, and yellow colored pencils, with animators' notes in red ink and orange pencil. Drawing A1 renders Vash's face and gun with graphite, blue, orange, red, and green pencils and has many animators' notes in red ink. Drawing D1 has the image created as a guide for the sand effect in red pencil. The three drawings are done on 12 field size animation paper, with drawings A1 and D1 presenting an extra piece of paper taped to complete the pan size. Seen at the beginning of each episode, this rare cel is also visually astonishing and a magnificent example of the skillful work needed to create scenes like these. The setup shows very light surface scratches that don't affect the art, with the cels showing the sand effect also showing some surface scuffing. Drawing C1 has some light traces of paint from the production cel, and drawing A1 has a light paint spot near the top edge of the drawing. The Key Master background has pinholes on the left and right top edges. The overall condition of this lot is Very Good.
