Description
Transformers: Masterforce "Escape!! The Exploding Underwater Volcano" Super Ginrai and Lightfoot Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Toei, 1988). "Look out!" Super Ginrai shields an already injured Lightfoot from the worsening cave-in in this intense Key Master setup from the Transformers: Masterforce episode "Escape!! The Exploding Underwater Volcano". The second Japanese-exclusive sequel to the wildly popular original 1980s American Transformers series, Masterforce ran for 42 episodes between April 1988 and the following February with "Escape!!" debuting in the latter half on November 15, 1988. This series' head writer Masumi Kaneda attempt a more piloted mecha-style overhaul for this entry in the G1 franchise with human trucker Ginrai becoming a Transformer himself, taking on the visage of Optimus Prime. Super Ginrai can be spotted working to free Lightfoot from the underwater crevasse near the 8:20 timestamp with the falling rocks spotted seconds later as the cave-in worsens. Hand-painted to frame-filling full-figures, the two Godmasters share a combined image area of 10.25" x 8" including the rocks filling the 12 field multilayer cel nearly edge-to-edge. The top edge of each layer is noted as cut 123 and marked with a frame number. The Key Master background has been hand-painted in gouache and trimmed to 10.5" x 9.25", approximately the same dimensions as the cel to which it is stapled at the upper corners. With typical handling and edge wear including minor linework fading with small areas of restoration, adhesion of the cel layers to each other and the background, and the noted staples/background trimming, overall this Key Master setup is in Good condition.More information about Toei Animation.
