Touché, Pussycat! Tom and Jerry with Nibbles Production Cel Setup with Master Background (MGM, 1954). Here's a fantastic hand-inked, hand-painted setup that originally was sent to a lucky fan named Tommy. It's from the second "Two Mouseketeers" short, which was released to theaters on 12/18/54. Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera directed the cartoon, which was nominated for an Academy Award. This setup includes carefully trimmed cels of Nibbles and Jerry added to a 16 field cel of Tom. It's placed over what we believe to be the production background from early in the short, as Mouseketeer hopeful Nibbles makes his way to Paris to join forces with Jerry; it can be first seen at the 0:25 mark. Figure sizes are 6", 1.75", and 2.25". The setup is in a special presentation mat, with hand-lettering and hand-painted green border stripe and notation "Best wishes to Tommy from Tom and Jerry." The mat has an opening of 11.5" x 8.75", and an overall size of 16" x 14". Minor handling wear. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
