Description
Todd McFarlane's Spawn Spawn and Clown/Violator Production Cel (HBO, c. 1997-99). "Hell does not allow its warrior children to roam unchecked. And so, each is given their proper escort..." Violator, in his Clown form, makes his first appearance in the acclaimed HBO animated series Todd McFarlane's Spawn in this stellar hand-painted original production cel setup. This Emmy award-winning series was one of the first animated series to air on HBO in 1997, setting an unprecedented standard for TV animation geared toward adults. Of the series, Todd McFarlane remarked in 1997, "people have such a stereotype about animation - they immediately think cartoons and Disney. They're not used to seeing Silence of the Lambs, The Godfather and Seven all in one cartoon, but that's what they're getting." Seen at the 5:50 mark of the very first episode, this piece is composed of three 12 field cels featuring Violator and Spawn in a foreground closeup. A dramatic image of the characters, this piece is displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes, and it bears an official HBO Animation seal.
