Description

Todd McFarlane's Spawn 15.75" x 10.25" Spawn Production Cel and Animation Drawing (HBO, c. 1997-99). A shadowy figure approaches in this lot, offering a magnificent hand-painted production cel of the grim protagonist of Todd McFarlane's Spawn. The iconic character debuted with the first Spawn comic in May 1992, an issue that sold 1.7 million copies, becoming the basis of this groundbreaking animated series, memorable for its faithful translation of the comic's gritty art style and dark story. Numbered A10, this gigantic 17" x 11.5" cel shows the caped Spawn, characteristically dowsed in shadows, measuring 15.75" x 10.25", shown on a printed background for presentation purposes, and accompanied by the matching animation drawing. The animation drawing is done in graphite and color pencils. The cel has the background stuck to its back. Some paint residue can be seen on the animation drawing, with paint spots on the top left area. In overall Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear from production.
From the Spawn writer John Leekley Collection.
