Description
The Three Caballeros "The Cold-Blooded Penguin" Pablo Production Cel Setup with Hand-Painted Presentation Background (Walt Disney, 1945). Vintage production cel featuring Pablo from "The Cold-Blooded Penguin," the opening segment of Walt Disney's 1944 anthology feature The Three Caballeros. Pablo's 5" figure is hand-inked and hand-painted, trimmed to image, and expertly mounted on a stunning hand-painted presentation background that complements the film's stylized Antarctic palette. The setup is handsomely matted to 14" x 12.5" for display. In the short, Pablo is the penguin who dislikes the cold; dreaming of sunshine, he embarks on a comic quest for warmer climates-testing skis and ice-fishing before launching a makeshift bathtub-boat toward the equator. His journey past South American coasts to the balmy Galápagos islands captures the film's playful travelogue spirit and the experimental energy of Disney's mid-'40s era. Pablo remains a charming piece of studio lore, emblematic of The Three Caballeros' blend of character animation, effects, and map-to-music montage. Original cels from this segment are scarce, and this clean, well-posed image-paired with an attractive hand-painted background-displays beautifully.
