    Description

The Shooting of Dan McGoo Red Hot Production Cel with Preston Blair Signature (MGM, 1945). This classic Tex Avery-directed short starts off as an adaptation of Robert Service's poem The Shooting of Dan McGrew, complete with a literal depiction of a man with one foot in the grave, but when Dan McGoo turns out to be Droopy, it turns into another Droopy-versus-the Wolf gagfest. The wartime short features the lovely character Lou who got her start in 1943's Red Hot Riding Hood. One of Avery's most popular characters, she appeared in a total of nine vintage MGM theatrical cartoons. In this lot is a very rare original production cel of Red from her fourth, The Shooting of Dan Magoo and it can be seen around the 05:00 mark. The stunning full-figure image measures an impressive 3.5" x 7.5". It's one of the nicest production cels of this highly sought-after character we have ever offered and to add to is rarity, the animator credited with directing the animation for the character, Preston Blair (1908 - 1995) signed the mat in the frame. The art is in a 14" x 16" frame with an oval mat window of 6" x 9". Condition of the cel is Fine and the frame is sold as-is.
