Description

The Little Mermaid Sebastian Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1989). "How do I get myself into these situations? I should be writing symphonies, not tagging along after some headstrong teenager," said Sebastian in The Little Mermaid. The film was a huge success for the Disney studio, being praised for its animation, storytelling, and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. The movie grossed over $100 million at the US box office upon its initial release, and won two Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Original Music Score. It is credited as the film to have started the historic Disney Renaissance (1989 - 1999). In this lot is a fantastic production cel of Sebastian, the Jamaican crustacean who serves as King Triton's advisor and "distinguished" court composer. Despite holding an esteemed position, Sebastian is regularly tasked with watching over Triton's youngest daughter, Princess Ariel. The cel in this lot was hand-painted on 16 field, 3-peghole acetate and paired with a print of the background for presentation purposes. The cel has a silver foil Walt Disney Company seal on the piece. The artwork is in a frame of 21.5" x 16" under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 14.5" x 9.75". Frame sold as-is. Also included is a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Disney which is affixed to the back of the frame. Condition is Very Good.
