DescriptionThe Great Mouse Detective Dawson and Showgirls Production Cel Setup (Walt Disney, 1986). "Let me be good to you!" This Disney feature paid homage to Sir Arthur Condon Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character and Dawson was based on Dr. Watson. Here he is in disguise and flanked by two showgirls after being drawn into a musical review in a seedy tavern called The Mousetrap. This film received positive reviews and financial success, in sharp contrast to the box office under-performance of Disney's previous animated feature film The Black Cauldron (1985). As a result, the company became convinced that their animation department was still a viable enterprise which set the stage for the Disney Renaissance. It is an original hand-painted 3 cel setup with each character on its own 12 field production cel. The overall image measures approximately 6" x 10" and there is a Disney seal to the left on the top cel as well as a copyright on the lower right. Cels of this era were laminated by the studio to help preserve them. Unfortunately, the lamination often caused some of the paint to spread outside the lines and there is evidence of that around the pink paint on the showgirls' dresses. The cels are stapled together in the top left corner; otherwise, condition is Very Good.
