Description
The Flintstones Fred Flintstone Production Cel for Winston Cigarette Commercial (Hanna-Barbera, 1960). "The Flintstones... brought to you by Winston's, America's best-selling, best-tasting filtered cigarette!" says the voice-over in this sponsor tag for the Flintstones' first season. Fred is then seen sitting in his chair in front of his TV, saying "Winston tastes good, like a cigarette should!" This image can be seen at about the 10-second mark of the sequence. Outstanding hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Fred in the show's sponsor segment. Winston Cigarettes sponsored the show from its debut in 1960, but it was replaced by Welch's after Pebbles was born, with the show aiming to be more family-friendly. The image of Fred measures about 4" x 4" on its cel, which is trimmed to 12" x 10". The cigarette Fred is holding is a photographic print, which is trimmed to image and is placed under his finger, with a slot trimmed into the acetate so that the cigarette could slide in. The cel is displayed on a color print for presentation purposes. These sponsor segments were usually seen in black and white, so it's quite cool to see this piece in full color. The cel is in Very good condition, with some handling and edge wear from production use.Auction Info
