Offered in this lot is a haunting original production cel from one of the most controversial scenes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, seen at the 2:23 mark of Hideaki Anno's gripping animated feature conclusion The End of Evangelion. Setting the tone for the mind-bending finale, this opening scene of the film famously shocked audiences on its release, taking the series into even darker territory than the grim final few episodes. Hand-painted in a washed-out monochrome, this piece captures the cold, bone-chilling mood of the infamous scene. The large, dramatically composed image of Asuka and Shinji nearly fills the 12 field cel. The cel is numbered A6 in the upper right corner, and it shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use. An unbelievably rare find from the unforgettable scene, the condition of this must-have cel is Very Good.
