The Band Concert Production Cel with Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1935). This historic cartoon was the 73rd Mickey Mouse cartoon, but the first one in color! It was directed by Wilfred Jackson and released on 2/23/35. The Band Concert had more A-list animators than any short we have seen. The roster of animators included Les Clark (Mickey Mouse), Ward Kimball, Jack Kinney, Milt Kahl, Roy Williams, Ugo D'Orsi, Clyde Geronimi, Woolie Reitherman and others. This cartoon was rated #3 in Jerry Beck's landmark book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons, the highest ranking Disney cartoon in this list. This is a 2-peghole, 12 field nitrate hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Mickey Mouse leading the band in the "William Tell Overture" and is as rare as they come. This scene is at the 0:52 mark in the cartoon. This cel is the perfect image of Mickey Mouse from this short, with an amazing full-figure image size of 6". The production cel is on a hand-painted custom background made for presentation purposes. The piece is in a frame of 23" x 19" with a mat opening of 11" x 9". This image of Mickey was made by Walt Disney Art Classics in the 1990s as a limited edition. This is the actual production cel of Mickey in one of his top three roles! This is a museum-worthy piece of Mickey Mouse and Disney history. Frame is sold as-is. Some paint separation but paint intact. Cel for this vintage piece is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
