Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Raphael Versus the Volcano" Raphael as "The Green Defender" Production Cel and Animation Drawing Group of 395 (Murakami-Wolf-Swenson, c. 1987-96). "I feel SO ridiculous in this costume. "Hey! Who are you supposed to be, the Silly Green Giant?" "Lucky for him I'm a good guy or I'd tell his mother!" Chided by kid on a skateboard for his new musketeer-esque superhero persona, it's the Green Defender (AKA Raphael, the temporarily-not-red-bandanaed Turtle) in this totally tubular titanic collection of original production cel sequences from the season 5 episode "Raphael Versus the Volcano" of the 1989 animated debut series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Featuring characters from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's increasingly popular comic, the animated series was made considerably lighter-toned than the comic so as to appeal more to children. Presented as multiple separate sequences composed of both production cels and animation drawings, this lot prominently features Raph's alter ego seen singularly in this episode from 10:40 through the 22:00 mark. Across all images in this lot Green Defender Raphael ranges in size from 1" x 1.75" to 7.75" x 7.25" and appears both full and partially figured, including one full-figured cel sequence of over 70 frames! The cels have each been skillfully hand-painted on acetate and the drawings rendered in graphite and colored pencils on animation paper. Many of the drawings have adhered to the cels, some drawings show wear from previous adhesion removal. Debris, minor creases, small tears, paint wear/loss, and surface scuffing are present. With typical handling and edge wear the drawings range from Poor to Good and the cels range from Fair to Very Good condition.More information about Murakami-Wolf-Swenson. See also: MWS Artist.
