Description

Surf-Bored Cat Tom Cat Production Cel Group of 4 (MGM, 1967). Cowabunga Dude! Tom Cat intends to do a little surfing, but he keeps running into trouble in this radical collection of 4 hand-inked, hand-painted original production cels from Tom and Jerry's 1967 short Surf-Bored Cat. Produced by animation legend Chuck Jones (1911 - 2002) and directed by Abe Levitow (1922 - 1975) who is best known for his work under Jones, this film was one of the final short-form theatrical features to star the classic cat and mouse duo before they converted to a television format. Facing an ocean of obstacles, Tom struggles to make it to the waves, gets chased by a shark, and ends up buried beneath the sand with an octopus stuck to his head all in an effort to hang ten. Two of the cels in this lot come from the same sequence and feature Tom in a shocked leap, in a multilayer cel he seems to have taken a severe whack to the head (his eyes appear on a separate layer here), and in the final cel Tom fruitlessly attempts to remove the wayward cephalopod from his body. Across all four images Tom ranges in size from approximately 4.5" x 4" to 4.75" x 5.25". The 12 field cels each display a gold Linda Jones seal in the lower right and production codes along the lower edge; all but the octopus cel also include a hand-written copyright near Tom's image. COAs are included for two of the cels. The cels shows mild curling with light handling and edge wear present. Overall the condition is Very Good.
