DescriptionStarKist Charlie the Tuna TV Commercial Key Master Setup (DePatie-Freleng, c.1970s).
"Tell 'em Charlie sent you!" This iconic character pitched StarKist tuna from the 1960s through the 1980s and beyond. Here's an original hand-inked, hand-painted production cel setup featuring that tuna with good taste, Charlie. Charlie the Tuna was created by Tom Rodgers of the Leo Burnett agency in 1961; many of these spots were animated by DePatie-Freleng. Animated commercials are excellent at spreading recognition for products. People are naturally drawn to bright colors and moving objects - and at their most basic level, animations are simply eye-catching. One study by the National Institutes of Health found that people remembered animations 21 days longer than static images and text. The setup in this lot is placed on the original hand-painted production background and matted with an opening of 11.75" x 8.75". Charlie measures 4" tall. Condition is Very Good.
