Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "Walking Small" Plankton Production Cel Setup with "Plankton!" Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999/2000). "Tell 'em off, SpongeBob. Assert yourself!" Deviously worming his way into SpongeBob's mind, Plankton is presented in this villainous original setup featuring a production cel from Episode 18's "Walking Small" paired with a Master background from Episode 3's eponymous "Plankton!" of the mega-popular Nicktoon. Created by marine science teacher, Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants now ranks fourth in the list of longest running American animated series with 15 seasons and counting, though only the first produced using traditional cel animation. One-off character turned main recurring villain, Plankton's July 17, 1999 debut in his titular segment became the first of many with "Walking Small" on March 22, 2000 closing out his Season 1 episodes. When their respective segments are viewed online, Plankton can be spotted near the 4:36 timestamp of "Walking Small" demanding SpongeBob be more forceful while his control box in SpongeBob's brain can be seen near the 9:55 timestamp of his debut. Hand-painted to full-figure, he measures 2.25" x 4.75" nicely centered on the 12 field cel which is numbered in the lower right. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 13.75" x 10.5" overall with production codes along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 3 include Andy 'Spike' Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including minor linework wear with evidence of restoration to the cel and small areas of paint wear/chipping to the background, overall this calculating villain is in Good to Very Good condition.
