Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "The Paper" Squidward Production Cel Setup with "Bubblestand" Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999/2000). "Hello?" Squidward answers the call in this exasperated original setup featuring a production cel from Episode 16's "The Paper" paired with a Master background from Episode 2's "Bubblestand" of Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants. Created by marine science teacher Stephen Hillenburg, this beloved Nicktoon now ranks fourth in the list of longest running American animated series with 15 seasons and counting, though only the first produced using traditional cel animation. "The Paper" debuted on Valentine's Day 2000 with SpongeBob ecstatically turning Squidward's discarded gum wrapper into a wide array of costumes and props much to his neighbor's annoyance, while "Bubblestand" aired the previous year on July 17 and saw SpongeBob try to earn a little pocket money by selling bubbles and bubble blowing lessons also much to Squidward's annoyance. When their respective segments are viewed online, Squidward can be spotted answering his shellphone near the 1:14 timestamp irked to hear SpongeBob on the other end while his home interior is seen near the 4:34 timestamp shaking violently from a bubble-boat's fog horn pop. Featured large and centered, Squidward has a hand-painted three-quarters figure measuring 3" x 6" on the 12 field cel which is numbered in the lower right. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 13.5" x 10.5" overall with production codes along the lower edge which misattribute it to the episode's following segment "Ripped Pants". Background artists for Episode 2 include Andy 'Spike' Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including minor linework wear with evidence of restoration to the cel and rough edges from scoring during production on the background, overall this perturbed neighbor is in Very Good condition.
