Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "The Paper" SpongeBob Production Cel Setup with "Bubblestand" Master Background (Nickelodeon, c. 1999-2000). "Hey SpongeBob, can your stupid paper do this?" "Uhm, nope!" Making a speedy escape, SpongeBob SquarePants is presented in this original production cel from the episode segment "The Paper", presented on a Master background from "Bubblestand" all created for Season 1 of his eponymous Nickelodeon series. SpongeBob SquarePants was one of the last Nicktoons to premiere in the 1990s, and the only one of the decade still airing with a total of 14 seasons and counting. Of those 14 seasons, however, only Season 1 was traditionally cel animated. In "The Paper", SpongeBob spends this episode 16 segment tormenting Squidward by trying to return a discarded bubblegum wrapper to his neighbor. Hastily winged away by the whirling scrap balanced neatly on the end of his finger, SpongeBob can be spotted near the 6:34 mark of the segment. He has been hand-painted to a full-figured character size of 3.5" x 3.25" including the paper's motion blur on the 12 field cel which has been paired with a hand-inked effects layer of smoke clouds (from an undetermined episode) with an image area of 7.25" x 4.75". The vibrant Master background accompanying the setup hails from the episode 2 segment "Bubblestand" and can be spotted near the 10:08 mark in an ominous moment as an absolutely massive bubble heads right for Squidward's house. It has been hand-painted in gouache with airbrush detail on 12 field background board with production codes present along the lower edge. Backgrounds for episode 2 were created by Andy Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical studio handling and wear including some linework restoration to SpongeBob's cel layers, areas of light linework wear, minor surface debris/residue, remaining tape, and light edge wear to the background with a 2.75" tear just below the image area in the lower left, overall this setup is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
