Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" SpongeBob Production Cel Setup with "Bubblestand" Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). "Only the freshest, oh spooky one!" SpongeBob is ready for whatever is needed of him in this incredible setup featuring an original production cel from the Episode 11's "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" presented on a Master background from Episode 2's "Bubblestand" of his eponymous Nickelodeon series. SpongeBob SquarePants was one of the final Nicktoons to premiere in the 1990s, and the only one of the decade still airing with a total of 15 seasons and counting, yet only Season 1 was traditionally cel animated. "Bubblestand" debuted first on July 17, 1999 and saw SpongeBob try to earn a little pocket money by selling bubbles and bubble blowing lessons, while "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" aired the following October 2nd revolving around SpongeBob and Patrick thinking Squidward has come back to haunt them after the friends accidently destroy his wax statue self-portrait. When the segments are viewed standalone online, SpongeBob's image can be seen near the 5:23 timestamp of "Unfriendly Ghost" ready to serve spectral Squidward's every whim while the Master background of Squidward's yard is seen near the 3:15 timestamp of "Bubblestand" as Patrick purchases an attempt to blow a bubble. The nearly full-figured SpongeBob measures a fantastic 4.75" x 5", nicely centered on the hand-painted cel which features hand-inked detail and is numbered in the lower right. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 13" x 10.25" overall with production codes found along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 2 include Andy 'Spike' Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including minor linework wear, overall this helpful neighbor is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
