Description
SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Nickelodeon, c. 1999-2001). "Aye aye captain," SpongeBob seems to say with his salute. Offered in this lot is an original production cel setup with Master production background featuring the titular sponge from one of the last Nicktoons to premiere in the 1990s, SpongeBob SquarePants. This mega-popular Nickelodeon animated series (currently with 14 seasons and the fifth-longest running American animated series ever) created by marine science teacher, Stephen Hillenburg, is about an undersea sponge and his friends on their many zany adventures. This lot features a wonderfully large image of SpongeBob saluting from Season 1 which was the only season to be traditionally cel animated. The hand-painted and partially hand-inked cel features an impressive nearly full-figure closeup of the iconic character measuring 4.5" x 5.25". The 12 field cel is presented with a Master production background of Squidward's living room from the Season 1 episode 13 segment "I Was a Teenage Gary" which can be spotted at approximately the 9:17 mark of the segment. This skillfully hand-painted background has been rendered in gouache on 12 field background board with an image size of 11.75" x 8.25" and production codes found along the lower edge. Backgrounds for episode 13 were created by Richard Ziehler-Martin, Calvin G. Liang, Andy Clark, Peter Bennett, and Michael Chen. What a wonderful setup, sure to please any fan of the show! With typical studio handling and wear including some linework wear with areas of restoration, minor surface debris/residue, remaining tape, and light edge wear to the background, overall this setup is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
