Description
SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Nickelodeon, c. 1999-2001). From one of the last Nicktoons to premiere in the 1990s, the typically happy-go-lucky SpongeBob is featured here looking a bit perturbed in this original production cel setup with Master production background from his eponymous series. Currently the fifth-longest running American animated series ever, with 14 seasons and counting, SpongeBob SquarePants is a wildly-popular Nickelodeon original created by marine science teacher, Stephen Hillenburg. Only Season 1 was produced using traditional cel animation, making offerings like this one quite rare and highly desirable. The hand-painted and partially hand-inked cel features a fabulously full-figured image of SpongeBob in his Krusty Krab uniform hat with a mop in hand measuring 3" x 4.5" with a production code found in the lower right corner. The 12 field cel is presented with a Master production background from the Season 1 episode 10 segment "Culture Shock" and can be spotted during Squidward's interpretive dance talent show performance near the 8:54 mark of the segment. The skillfully hand-painted background has been rendered in gouache and mixed media on vertically aligned 12 field background board with the stage floor portion appearing as a cel underlay, and production codes for both layers found along the left edge with the pegholes. Backgrounds for episode 10 were created by Peter Bennett, Michael Chen, Andy Clark, and Calvin G. Liang. With typical studio handling and wear including linework wear with areas of restoration, trimming/reattachment of the pegholes, remaining tape, minor surface debris/residue, and light edge wear to the background, overall this setup is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
