Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Sleepy Time" SpongeBob Production Cel Setup with 45" Pan Key Master Background and Animation Drawing (Nickelodeon, 1999). "Wait a minute, I don't have a driver's license! ...WOW! My driver's license!" SpongeBob dreams of getting his license in the opening minutes of Episode 15's "Sleepy Time" of the debut season of his titular Nicktoon with this outstanding Key Master setup. The expansive 45" Key Master background is seen beginning near the 1:01 timestamp of the full episode when viewed online with the Key Master setup's frame spotted about 10 seconds later SpongeBob races around Bikini Bottom in a thematically bizarre dreamscape. The original hand-painted image of the title character in his boatmobile measures approximately 9.5" x 5.5" on the 12 field multilayer cel. The accompanying drawing matches SpongeBob's character layer with an image area of 3.25" x 3.5" rendered in graphite and colored pencil on a sheet of 12 field animation paper; both the cel and drawing bear a Nickelodeon seal in the lower left. The oversized pan Key Master background has been hand-painted in gouache on a 45" x 10" background board with the center area featuring the most detail and a Nickelodeon copyright stamp at the top edge. The peghole edge of each element in the lot bears production codes including the episode identifying SB#141. It's quite an impressive and unique setup from the beginnings of this wildly popular television series in the only season to be traditionally cel animated. With typical handling and edge wear including slight linework wear, minor edge/peghole tearing, and vertical folds in the pan background, overall the condition is Very Good.Auction Info
