Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "Sandy's Rocket" SpongeBob Production Cel (Nickelodeon, 1999). "The moon! Can I go?" "No way SpongeBob, especially after your little mishap with my whirlybird." Utterly crestfallen that he won't be allowed to join Sandy on a trip to the moon, SpongeBob makes a rather melancholy appearance in this original production cel from the Season 1 segment "Sandy's Rocket" of his titular Nickelodeon series. SpongeBob SquarePants was created by former marine science teacher Stephen Hillenburg and made its debut in the summer of 1999. This mega-popular Nicktoon is the network's longest running original cartoon series with season 14 airing and 15 in currently production, thought only the first season was traditionally cel animated. "Sandy's Rocket" aired as the first segment of episode 8 in September of 1999, and saw SpongeBob and Patrick sneak aboard the spaceship and accidently send it into a test launch. This frame can be spotted near the 0:42 mark of the segment when viewed online, just after Sandy tells SpongeBob he cannot accompany her. Full-figured and delightfully centered yet uncharacteristically cheerless, SpongeBob has been hand-painted and partially hand-inked to an impressive character size of 3.25" x 4.25" on the 12 field cel which bears production codes along the lower edge and has been placed on a print background for display purposes. With typical studio handling and wear including minor surface wear/debris, minor linework wear with areas of restoration, and faint color bleed paint wear to the eyes, overall this mournful cel is in Very Good condition.
