Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Jellyfish Jam" SpongeBob and Jellyfish Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). Spoofing 2 Unlimited's iconic hype song "Get Ready for This", SpongeBob and his wild jellyfish are ready to dance all night in this extraordinary and stylistic Key Master setup from Episode 7's "Jellyfish Jam" of his beloved Nicktoon. SpongeBob SquarePants was one of the last Nickelodeon originals to premiere in the 1990s, and the only one of the decade still airing with a total of 15 seasons and counting however, only Season 1 was traditionally cel animated. "Jellyfish Jam" debuted on August 28, 1999 and saw SpongeBob briefly adopt a wild jellyfish in an attempt to domesticate it. On their first night home, SpongeBob throws a celebratory dance party for his new pet with this unusual frame seen several times near the 2:55, 3:02, and 3:34 timestamps when the segment is viewed online. Existing model sheets refer to this form as his Triangle Negative Image and note that only three paint colors were used including SpongeBob's linework, the jellyfish's linework, and the solid background. The cel has been entirely hand-inked to a nicely centered character size of 5.5" x 5" and numbered in the lower right; the Key Master background has been hand-painted in solid green gouache on background board measuring 14" x 10.25" overall with production codes found along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 12 include Peter Bennett, Michael Chen, Andy 'Spike' Clark, Calvin G. Liang, and Richard Ziehler-Martin. With typical handling and edge wear, overall this wild Key Master setup is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
