Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "Arrgh!" Mr. Krabs and Patrick Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). "'Weast'? What kinda compass are you reading, lad?" "This one, sir." "That's WEST, Patrick!" Mr. Krabs is fed up with Patrick's incompetency in this dramatic original Master setup from Episode 17's "Arrgh!" of SpongeBob SquarePants. One of the last Nickelodeon originals to premiere in the 1990s and the only one of the decade still airing with a total of 15 seasons and counting, only Season 1 of this long-running series was traditionally cel animated. "Arrgh!" premiered on March 15, 2000 and saw Mr. Krabs become utterly obsessed with SpongeBob's Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt board game to the point of planning a real treasure hunt using the game's map. Having headed 1000 paces in the wrong direction, Mr. Krabs fires crewman Patrick (for the second time) near the 6:01 timestamp of the segment when viewed online, with the background seen shortly after near the 6:25 timestamp once they have traveled 1000 paces back and then 1000 more nearing the correct map location of the treasure. Hand-painted to full-figures with hand-inked detail, Mr. Krabs and Patrick share a combined image area of 4" x 3.25" on the multilayer 12 field cel which is numbered in the lower right. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 14" x 10.5" overall with production codes along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 17 include Peter Bennett, Michael Chen, Andy 'Spike' Clark, and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including some minor surface wear/residue, overall this captain and crewman are in Very Good condition.
