Description

Spider-Man Production Cel with Production Background (Marvel/Grantray-Lawrence Animation, 1967-68). The original first animated version of Spider-Man was from the ABC-TV Saturday morning series with the memorable theme song ("... Is he strong? Listen, Bud, he's got radioactive blood...") lasted three seasons and 52 episodes. Here's a cool hand-painted production cel of Spidey from the first season, notable for the production error that had the Spider logo on Spider-Man's chest with only six legs, instead of eight; this would be corrected in the second and third seasons. Figure size is approximately 6" tall. The cel is placed on an original gouache background of NYC's Central Park, from the Season Two episode "Thunder Rumble," which originally aired on 12/28/1968. The setup is matted with an opening of 11.75" x 9", and an overall mat size of 18" x 15.25". Although beaten to the punch by the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man was the character that made Marvel famous, revitalizing the entire superhero comic book genre in the 1960s. Any and all Spider-Man art from the sixties is in high demand, and this colorful cel from his first animated series will be quite a prize. Some wear and toning on the mat; cel condition is Fine.
