Description

Space Ace Dexter and Hexter Video Game Production Cel Setup (Don Bluth/Cinematronics, 1983). "Beware your dark side," warns Kimberley as Dexter comes to save her. Suddenly, the person that appeared to be Kimberley morphs into a blue-hued, ominously-grinning version of Dexter called Hexter. This image depicts Dexter as he looks at Hexter in confusion before the two begin to battle. The cels come from the 1983 video game Space Ace, which continued Don Bluth's foray into traditionally-animating video games after his success with Dragon's Lair. The game was created for arcades using laserdisc technology, and it contains thousands of frames of hand-drawn animation. This setup is composed of two original, hand-painted 16 field production cels from the game. The image of Dexter measures about 4.25" tall (measurement not including the rope the hero clings onto, which is also part of the painted image), while Hexter measures about 3.75" tall. The cels are numbered in their lower right corners with 55 and K55. This great sci-fi piece is matted, with a matboard aperture measuring 13" x 10" and an overall mat size of 20" x 16". The piece is in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear.
