Description
Sonic the Hedgehog Title Card Production Cel Setup and Animation Drawing Group of 6 (DIC, c. 1993-94). "Sonic, he can really move! Sonic, he's got an attitude! Sonic, he's the fastest thing alive!" Sonic speeds by and gives an iconic thumbs up in this remarkably rare and fantastic sequence of three hand-painted original production cels, created for the title card of Sonic the Hedgehog. The second of DIC's Sonic cartoons, Sonic the Hedgehog (distinguished by fans as "SatAM" in reference to its Saturday morning timeslot) features a dramatic and dark story compared to its predecessor, depicting the speedy hero as a member of a band of freedom fighters battling to overthrow the despotic dictator Doctor Robotnik. This title card sequence differs slightly from the one seen in the final product (as seen on YouTube), making this sequence especially rare and highly coveted pieces of Sonic production art. Each of the cels bear an official DIC Original Production Cel seal, and they are accompanied by their matching original animation drawings, rendered in graphite and color pencil on vertically aligned 12 field sheets of animation paper. The 12 field cels are displayed on printed backgrounds for presentation purposes, and each piece in this lot shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use. One of the cels is a 2-cel setup, and the overall condition is Very Good.Auction Info
