Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs "Silly Song" Dopey Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1937)." "I'd like to dance and tap my feet, but they won't keep in rhythm; You see, I washed them both today, and I can't do nothing with 'em!" From Disney's emblematic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, we have in this lot a splendid hand-painted production cel Courvoisier setup showing the only dwarf with blue eyes, Dopey, playing a kettle drum, as seen during the famous "Silly Song" music number. Guthrie Courvoisier, President of the highly esteemed Courvoisier Galleries in San Francisco, was aware of Disney's escalating reputation, believing that the Disney cels used to create Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs could be sold as valuable art pieces to the public through art galleries worldwide. This renowned collaboration played a pivotal role in the birth of animation art. The hand-inked and hand-painted image of Dopey shows the character measuring 8" x 7.75", as seen at the 53:05 timestamp. The drumsticks have been added, and the kettle drum is on paper pasted onto an overlay cel. This setup is displayed on a Courvoisier airbrushed background and offered on a glass-fronted 14.75" x 14.5" frame, exhibiting a plaque on the bottom area of the mat that reads "Dopey - Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs 1937." All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The Dopey image shows some minor paint separation, light staining on his robe, and there are two small paint fragments loose within the setup, but no missing paint is visible on the figure. In Good condition.
