Description

Smurfs Original Animation Layout Drawing (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1980s). The word "smurf" is the original Dutch translation of the French "schtroumpf", which, according to artist Peyo (the pen name of Pierre Culliford), is a word he invented during a meal with fellow cartoonist André Franquin when he could not remember the word salt. Here is a superb layout drawing of the inside of Wizard Wizlow's cottage. The artwork was rendered in graphite and color pencil on 21.5" x 10.5" animation paper by background layout designer and artist, Andrew (Drew) Gentle. This impressive illustration was hand-signed by the artist. The artwork shows some edge wear and a fold crease in the center left of the piece. Condition is Very Good.
