Sleeping Beauty Briar Rose Production Cel Signed by Frank Thomas, Marc Davis, and Ollie Johnston (Walt Disney, 1959). "But when will I see you again?" "Oh, never, never!" "Never?" "Well, maybe someday." "When? Tomorrow?" "Oh, no! This evening! At the cottage in the glen." Princess Aurora weighs the dangers of revealing her identity after a fated forest encounter in this incredible original production cel from the 1959 Disney classic Sleeping Beauty which has been signed by three of Walt's Nine Old Men, Frank Thomas (1912 - 2004), Marc Davis (1913 - 2000), and Ollie Johnston (1912 - 2008). Working under the tapestry-like designs of color stylist Eyvind Earle, Thomas and Johnston co-supervised the animation of the Three Fairies while Davis served as supervising animator for the film's heroine fulling embracing Earle's unique design approach. Showcasing the concealed Princess as her alter ego Briar Rose, this moment of pause can be spotted as Aurora dashes back to the cottage near the 32:47 timestamp, shortly after sharing the iconic "Once Upon a Dream" musical number with Prince Phillip. She has been hand-painted to full-figure measuring 2.25" x 5" nicely centered in the frame and paired with a print background for display purposes with the lower edge of the cel hand-signed by Thomas, Davis, and Johnston. The piece has been matted to an overall size of 19" x 14.25" with an aperture of 13" x 8" and is protected by an additional black sheet of acetate. Obscured by the mat, the production cel and print background have been stapled at the lower edge, and the cel appears to have been trimmed slightly at the sides. With typical handling and edge wear including the noted staples and edge trimming, overall this outstanding image of Princess Aurora as Briar Rose is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
