Description
Silverhawks Promotional Poster Sketch (Rankin/Bass, 1986). From the classic animated series Silverhawks, we have this amazing draft sketch for a promotional poster. This spectacular rough sketch is a one-of-a-kind item executed with paste-in photocopies, ink wash, rendering the Silverhawks with graphite, and presenting Commander Stargazer in the front. The evil Monstar is also a paste in photocopy with ink wash shading, as well as the moon behind him. All the elements together present a fantastic composition to give us a very clear idea of how the finalized product would have looked. The hand-drawn parts of this piece are by the hand of Tsuguyuki "Tsugu" Kubo, well known for animating the iconic Speed Racer opening sequence. He is also responsible for the unforgettable and stylistically distinguished character designs of Rankin/Bass' The Hobbit, The Last Unicorn, and Thundercats, among several Disney properties. Also included in this lot is a photocopy of the sketch, with a clearer image of the whole composition. The drawing has some tape holding some of the paste-in elements together. The paper is taped from behind to a piece of paper to add to the ink wash details. There is some toning on the paper, with folds and wrinkles on the corners. The photocopy also has folds on the top corners and small tears in the middle of the right edge. The overall condition of the lot is Very Good.Auction Info
